Today as we go forward in our message series “The Blessed Life” I pray that our perspective will continue to change. My desire is that when opportunities come, our immediate response would be generosity. So often our immediate response in quite the opposite. It’s more of a consumeristic response!

If you and I really desire to see the manifest blessings of God, upon our lives, we will find ourselves with a generous eye.

Proverbs 22:9 says… He who has a generous eye will be blessed! Be blessed today! May God continue to pour out, His blessings upon you, as you look for ways to continually pour out, His blessings upon others!

Tithes & Offerings

What is a tithe and how is it different from an offering? The word, “tithe” literally means tenth or 10%. A tithe is the first 10% of your income. An offering is anything you give above and beyond the 10%.

Why do we tithe? The Bible says, The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to put God first in your lives. (Deuteronomy 14:23 TLB)

Tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything we have. It is also God’s personal invitation to an outpouring of his blessing in your life.

God Bless as you give to the work of His ministry!

It is such a fight in the, American Church to live the life of a Disciple. To be a Christ Follower, and just to take the obvious words of Jesus and take them literally and live them out. The American Church has tried to mix itself with the American Dream! In the church today many, if not all, of us battle with living a life that is self gratifying, self indulgent, and comfortable. We want to say that we are following Christ, but truly, Christ would scarcely walk into some of the places, thoughts and emotions that we do. I’m not saying that I roll out of bed rip raring and ready to sacrifice and give myself totally away. But I want to, want too! I am working this whole pursuit of Christ, and devoted follower, right along with you!

So let’s go together! Ready!

A disciple is a follower of Christ who reflects the image of God by finding their identity in Jesus and expressing that identity through worship to God, community to the body of Christ, and mission to the world.

The very first time the phrase Christian was used, it was used in a very negative sense. In fact, the very first time that it was used was in the First Century in Antioch by pagans, who were making fun of those who were Christ Followers. They called them Christianos, which is the term for Christ ones, or little Christs. They would make fun of those who were Christ followers. Instead of saying miny me’s, they were saying they were miny him’s. They want to be like Jesus, and the term Christian started out as a derogatory term.
The term Christian started off with a negative connotation and has continued to negatively impact our society. I believe that if we would operate as true disciples the responses of others would be different.

In what ways has the term Christian had a negative connotation? Do some research and reply back to me.
God Bless you this week as you strive to follow Christ with all your heart, soul, mind and strength!

What do you think of when you here the word “Christian”? I’m contemplating the true meaning of being one who follows Christ. So much to work through, but my desire is that I live worthy of His calling. I hope each one of you will contemplate with me the true meaning of following Christ as well as living worthy of the call that Christ has placed upon your life. If you get a chance this week ask some of your co-workers, friends, family that do not follow Christ… “What they think of when they hear the word “Christian” I think you’ll be surprised, then give me some feedback on their responses. We’ll talk more about disciple later!
